Sarah Madden, Higher Apprentice at Interserve Learning & Employment


As the Executive Assistant to the Senior Team at Interserve Learning & Employment, a national training provider based in Sheffield, Sarah Madden’s usual working day involves maintaining and managing complex dairies for Directors, organising travel itineraries and accommodation, conducting research tasks and dealing appropriately with all forms of communications on behalf of the Senior Team.

Sarah left school in 1996 to study as an apprentice in Business Administration. She achieved her NVQ levels 1 and 2 and now after twenty years of putting these qualifications into practice, utilising her training and receive promotions, Sarah has now enrolled onto a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Business Management equivalent to a foundation degree.

Sharing her story, Sarah said that: “When I left school, I had strong GCSEs grades, however, I decided college and university wasn’t ideally the way I wanted to go. Throughout my career I’ve held various positions, starting as an administrator at an engineering company and progressing into sales at local car dealership where I was then promoted to Personal Assistant to the Regional Manager. My apprenticeship opened up these roles to me and really allowed me to learn what an employer expected of me.”

“I’ve committed myself to developing my career as a Personal Assistant, having held my current positon at Interserve for 13 years this March 2017, I felt that I was ready to take on a new challenge. The opportunity was there for me to enhance the skills I have acquired over the years and have those formally recognised with a qualification, and I thought, why not?”

As an Interserve Employee Foundation Ambassador, Sarah has further advanced her career aspirations and volunteers for multiple local charity projects. Her most recent project helped to raise over £1,100 for Hallam FM’s Mission Christmas.
